Our History
Our company Design Engineering was established in 1991 in Timaru to provide structural steel inspection and welding qualification testing. Over the coming years the business expanded.
In early 2007 a branch was opened in Christchurch and one in Dunedin the following year. In 2014 a branch was opened in Hamilton. In 2018 Design Engineering acquired Survey NZ, a well-established business set up in Nelson. By this time the expanded business included civil and mechanical engineering, consulting, non destructive testing, welding inspections and equipment inspections.
In early 2021 a major restructure was implemented and DE Group was formed. The group includes three separate limited liability companies trading as DE Consulting Engineers & Inspection, DE Calibration & Compliance and Survey NZ.
As part of DE Group, DE Consulting Engineers and Inspection focuses on providing civil and mechanical engineering, non destructive testing, welding inspections and welder qualification testing as well as elevating work platform inspections. This is to ensure it is maintained and functioning correctly, and all our staff remain competent in their respective duties.

We have experienced inspectors who can complete on and off site inspections. This gives you the insurance of minimal distruption on your business operations, enabling a fast and efficient turn around on your equipment.
We also have experienced engineers that can undertake a wide range of structural and mechanical design and consent process (PS1) including industrial; residential and commercial buildings; foundations and retaining walls; seismic assessment and strengthening of existing buildings (ISA & DSA); construction monitoring (PS4); and peer reviews (PS2).
