Certification & Compliance of Equipment

News

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest of the engineering branches, it is also one of the broadest. Mechanical engineering combines engineering physics and mathematical principles with material science to design, analyse, manufacture and maintain mechanical systems. These systems can be small such as lifting eyes, lifting beams, truck fall arrests systems, to larger ones such as platforms, walkways, cranes etc.

What does a Mechanical Engineer do?

The skills learned as a Mechanical Engineer are applicable across multiple industries including motor vehicles development, aircraft and ships construction, propulsion design, power plants as well as robotics. Mechanical Engineers can cover virtually all areas of development from analysis and design to development, manufacturing, operation and maintenance.

In short, Mechanical Engineers can investigate and analyse problems and faults with machinery as well as design and provide advice on the building and repair of machines and tools. Most of the work involves design of equipment / machinery.

What is design certification?

Design certification is a formal certification that gives you assurance that your mechanical equipment and structures meet all the required standards and ensures that your workplace is kept safe. This certification is signed by a Chartered Engineer who represents a company with public and professional indemnity insurance.

Occasionally design certification is subject to non-destructive testing (NDT), inspection or load testing for verification. These steps give that next level of assurance that everything is manufactured to the applicable standards. An experienced Mechanical Engineer can advise you if certification or design verification is required.

How can I get a design certification / verification?

The experienced Mechanical Engineers at ‘DE Consulting Engineers and Inspection’ can help you with analysis, design, development and consultancy regarding manufacturing, operations and maintenance. We are delighted to share the news of our recent successful assessment for ISO 9001 Certification. This enables us to continuously improve our overall performance and focus on providing our clients services with consistent quality.

ISO 9001 sets out the requirements for a quality management system (QMS) and is the only standard in the family that can be certified to. This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement.

Although this is not a requirement, it helps to ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, regardless of the field of activity by helping businesses to be more efficient. Most importantly it helps to improve customer satisfaction.

Our ISO 9001 Certification recognises and awards our effective Quality Management System and ensures that all our customers and clients are receiving the quality service they deserve. Contact us with your consulting or inspection needs to see how we have put ISO 9001 Certification in practise. Click here to get to our contact form or call our Head Office at 03 688 6713.

In 1991 Design Engineering was established to provide structural steel inspections and welding qualification testing. Over the next few years the business expanded to include civil and mechanical engineering, consulting, non destructive testing as well as equipment inspections. Now we’re proud to announce that we’ve completed a restructure of the company.
In early 2021 we formed DE Group with three entities; DE Consulting Engineers & Inspection, DE Calibration & Compliance and Survey NZ.
Restructuring allows us to provide a wider range of services and still maintain the high level of quality in our work that we have been known for.

Dean Van Buuren - Owner of the DE Group

As the founder of Design Engineering, Dean continues to provide his expertise and support covering the whole Group.

 Board Charter

At the beginning of 2024 a board charter was implemented with Elliot Royce being engaged as the chair and advisor. The role of the board is to effectively represent, and promote the interests of the Group with a view to adding long-term value as well as direct and supervise the management of the business.

Hayden Bryant -  Operations Manager of DE Calibration & Compliance

Due the restructure, a new management position was created under the DE Calibration & Compliance name. We are proud to have Hayden, who previously worked as an Electrical Calibration Inspector in Design Engineering, as the Operations Manager handling our calibration and compliance work.

Marnus de la Guerre -  Operations & Technical Manager of Survey NZ

We are pleased to have Marnus as the Operations / Technical Manager of Survey NZ supported by Raelene Bleeker (Director) and the Board Chair Elliot Royce.

Kim Burtenshaw continues in her role as Accounts and Finance Manager under DE Group, managing the administration and finances.

Kaye Johnston- May continues in her role as Quality Control Manager under DE Group, with the additional role of Health and Safety Representative for DE Group.

Going forward into 2024

Well after a fantastic Xmas and New Year holiday break we hit the ground running in 2024 with staff commencing work on the 8th January straight into work. Possibly the best start to a new year in 33 years, we are optimistic this will continue with an additional 4 new staff commencing work this year.
